Port Blair, Aug 29: As part of exposure tour the media persons has
visited Dhanikhari Dam on Aug 28, 2018, where the Assistant Engineers, Shri
Kabilan and Junior Engineer, Shri Anbu of PHED, APWD received the media
persons.
They also felicitated the scribes and explained about the functioning
of the dam. On being asked about the condition of the dam, they informed that
the dam is in good condition and even in the giant earthquake and tsunami of
2014, did not suffer damage.
However,
the dam was renovated and height of the dam was raised by 5 mtrs in 2013. Shri
Kabilan said that the wall is in good and well maintained condition. He
Further, informing about the present features of Dhanikhari Dam, the AE Shri
Kabilan said, the height of the dam is 37.25 mtrs, length of dam top is 146
mtrs., gross water storage is 8554 ML (RL 66.00), having 3 nos. Gates, the
length of spillway is 17 M and design flood is 225 Cumecs. The Dam is presently
supplies 28.40 MLD (Millions of Litres per Day) water to various pockets on each
supplying day (10.52 MLD for Panchayat areas and 17.88 MLD for Municipal areas
through Water Treatment Plant, Lambaline). He further said, now we have
sufficient water level and can capable to supply water every day in view of
good rainfall in the islands, but in summer seasons its requires to be
cautious. However, the Assistant Engineer, APWD, Shri Kabilan has expressed
happiness to the Andaman & Nicobar Media Federation (ANMF) for visiting and
know the ground reality of Dhanikhari Dam.
