Port Blair, Sept 12: The ace shooter, Mohsin Khan, was introduced to
the islanders at a function organized by Innovative Artist Welfare Association
(IAWA) of India on Sept 11, 2018 at Junglighat. It is a proud moment for these
islands, that the sport which is yet out of favour in our islands, Mr. Khan
bagged the second position in that sport.
Mr. Khan etched his name in the sporting arena clinching Silver in the
small bore-free Rifle Prone (National Rifle) 50 mtrs in the individual category
in the All India G.V Mavalankar Shooting Championship held recently.
Speaking
on the occasion, Mohammed Jadwet said, Mr. Mohsin is very passionate about
shooting. It is for the first time that an islander clinched Silver medal in
Shooting. Around 4500 shooters from different parts of the country participated
in the championship. Majority of athletes opting for shooting as career in
sports are from the military background as there necessary infrastructure is
available. Unfortunately, the sport is not so popular in our islands. It's an
expensive sport and we need to build adequate infrastructure to motivate
budding talents to take up shooting. We will approach the administration and
Sports Councils in this regard soon," he added.
