Commuters protest at Bambooflat Jetty over Vehicle ferries shortage in DSS

Port Blair, Dec 05: The Chatham and Bambooflat jetties are two of the busiest jetties one Bambooflat jetty will always remain busy in the morning hours and Chatham jetty in the evenings. On Dec 04, 2018, instead of 3-4 vehicle ferries doing the rounds to Chatham-Bambooflat, only one vehicle ferry MV Pilopanja and a passenger ferry MV Austin were deployed due to some technical difficulties in the other vessels.
Due to shortage of boats gave a harrowing time to a large number of commuters (Office goers, students, etc.) at Bambooflat jetty, the angry commuters started their protest at 08.00 am. The crowd which was demanding Director of Shipping's presence on the spot, refused to talk to the Dy. Director who arrived on the scene. Later, Director, Capt. Ashitosh Pandey also reached on the spot and interacted with the crowd and patiently listened to their demands.
The Director, assured to take necessary action. The deployment of a new boat on this route will also said this month last they are coming out with new boat and it will a relief for the commuters of this area. The protest was called off by 11.30 am.
