Port
Blair, April 01: Coordination between various departments during Lock-down:
Andaman & Nicobar Administration is already started working in coordinative
manner with its various departments, specifically, Health Department which
plays a lead role during this period of time is doing an exceptional job, they
must be fully equipped with complete protection kits, as they are the only
persons who have to be in contact with confirmed infected persons during
treatment; A&N Police, the front-line force which deals in controlling the
people is also doing its best during the lock-down, of course wherever they find
any violation of lock-down they must handle toughly, but not upon followers;
Transport Department is providing services through its buses in every possible
way for staffs of various departments who are working as front-line workers;
PBMC workers are also among the front-line workers who maintain the city
sanitized, should not face shortage of self protective kits for workers make
use of them; Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs is also require to monitor the
timely supply of goods to the private firms and FPS to manage the demand of
supplies (LPG, Ration) to the public; and other departments too rendering their
valuable services to make the Lock-down successful.
Queues are maintained by male and female separately keeping above one meter social distancing.
Lock-down affect: The roads which are found busy always in the heart of the city, is now seen empty.
Cooperation
of Public: Basically, the people of Andaman and Nicobar Islands are tolerant,
but the sudden plan of administration i.e. door to door delivery system has put
the public at concern in beginning of the 21 days Lock-down, as they know that
in the municipal area they are already inhabiting in a congested areas that too
with narrow pathways, where two persons cannot pass at one go is hard to get
any door step services, which made the citizens run around grocery shops during
the beginning of Lock-down. Officials A&N Administration too, after finding
themselves incapable to serve the essential groceries at door steps of
citizens, have granted permission to essential shops to open. With the
continuous announcements about prevention and safety measures to stop the
spread of COVID-19 by PBMC and 'Stay Home - Be Safe' slogans by A&N Police,
the people now are become aware and maintaining social distancing.
A&N Police at various barricades are strictly verifying the passages.
Strict
Vigilance: Presently, 304 persons are under institutional quarantine in 17
guest houses / private hotels. Besides that, 1298 people are under home
quarantine. The Administration is closely observing the health conditions of
these people and in case they develop any symptoms of cough, cold and fever
their samples will be sent to the lab for testing. The people of the Islands
therefore have been requested to inform the Health Department on its helpline
102, if they observe any symptoms of cold, cough and fever in home quarantine
persons.
