Port
Blair, April 01: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) declared on
Wednesday that all students in Classes I to VIII will be promoted to the next
class without any examination, while students in class IX and XI will be
promoted on the basis of their school-based assessments, projects, and periodic
tests held before schools were shut. The announcement passed after directions
issued by the Ministry of Human Resource and Development (HRD).
HRD
Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal during the day tweeted, "Due to the ongoing
#COVID19 situation and keeping in mind the academic future of students, I have
advised @cbseindia29 to conduct board examinations only for 29 main subjects
that are required for promotion & maybe crucial for admissions in HEIs. I
have also advised CBSE to promote all students studying in classes I-VIII to
the next class /grade."
In
a statement, CBSE said that the board examinations will be conducted for 29
subjects of class X and XII at a later date. The Board said that "at this
stage, it is difficult for the board to decide and announce the new schedule
for the examination." Any decision in this regard will be taken by undertaking
extensive consultation with higher education authorities and by keeping all
aspects related to entrance exams, admissions dates, etc. in mind. The Board
will give notice of about 10 days to all stakeholders before starting the Board
examinations, according to CBSE.
