Dr. S. Ganesan passes away


Port Blair, July 22: Condolences were showered from all corners of A&N Islands on sudden and untimely demise of Dr. S. Ganesan, Regional Director, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). He breathed his last on 21/07/2020 after a massive heart attack. He was 53 and is survived by his wife and a daughter. Dr. S. Ganesan was a very good orator and popular columnist in local newspapers. He was the person, who recognized everyone who associated with IGNOU, and took the University upto new heights in the A&N Islands during his tenure. He was instrumental in popularizing various vocational courses of IGNOU during his 3-year tenure at Port Blair as the Regional Director of IGNOU.

Many eminent persons and organizations have expressed their deepest condolences on the sudden demise of Dr. S Ganeshan. Under his leadership, IGNOU, Regional Centre here achieved great heights and his demise is a big loss for the students' community. IGNOU associates prayed for eternal peace for the departed soul and prayed the Almighty to giving enough strength to the members of the bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss.


MP condoles death of Dr. S Ganeshan

Port Blair, July 22: Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Member of Parliament and President, Pradesh Congress Committee, Andaman & Nicobar Islands along with all senior leaders of PCC and its frontal organizations have deeply mourned the sad and untimely demise of Mr. S. Ganeshan, Regional Director, IGNOU, Port Blair who passed away on 21.07.2020 at GB Pant Hospital and prayed to Almighty to give eternal peace to the departed soul and courage to the bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss, a communication said.

One Incoming Passenger arrested with 5.5 KG of Ganja

Port Blair, June 02: Following credible information that one person is coming to Port Blair from Chennai in a fight with huge amount of Ganja, a joint team of PS Chatham and PS Aberdeen was formed headed by SI Shubham Ghosh & SI Mazumder respectively on May 31. The team soon reached ITF Ground and checked the belonging of the passenger, Mr. Ganesh Baag, a resident of Chennai and seized 5.5 KG of Ganja. The operation was carried out under the leadership of SDPO, South Andaman, ASP Kalaivanan R under overall supervision of Mr. Ravi Kumar, SP SA. It is believed that more arrests are possible in this case as Mr. Ganesh is working for a Ganja Racket in Andaman.

Say Good Bye to Plastic Bags - “It is Better for your Generations”

TMI Bureau Port Blair, Oct 02: As part of National Campaign against the single-use plastic and on the occasion of 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Over 25000 cloth bags (made by Skill Development Centre, DBRAIT) were distributed to general public for free by DBRAIT in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on Oct 02, 2019. At different distribution points, people at large numbers collected the cloth bags in exchange of a polythene bag. Background: Less than 50 years ago plastic bags were a rarity in the world. In Andaman it's just a decade ago Polyethylene were came into use, but badly affected a lot. Before plastic bags, there was paper or cloth. Paper bags worked but they were not easy to carry and they weren't nearly as strong as plastic. The most important part is paper was more expensive to produce than plastic.
