Civic Body organizes awareness campaign cum implementation workshop for sanitary workers


Port Blair, Oct 14: The Port Blair Municipal Council organised awareness campaign cum-implementation workshop for Sanitary workers to achieve source segregation of the garbage at household level. They were sensitized about encouraging, canvassing & exhorting the general public to handover only the segregated waste and contribute over maintaining clean & hygienic city.

In pursuance to the month long scheduled Swachhata activities for the commemoration of Gandhi Jayanthi, PBMC Plans to cover all Sanitary workers in four phases to be individually sensitized about the need & the way to achieve waste segregation at source. The first phase was inaugurated on 10.10.2020, to make the learning effective & simple a street play was organised to present the need challenges & the way forward to achieve waste segregation at source, and awareness campaign will be continued on weekly basis till the month end to cover all 24 wards under PBMC.

Shri. Abhishek Dev, IAS, Secretary (Urban Development), Smti. Anjali Sehrawat, IAS, Secretary (PBMC) & Padma Shri Awaredee, Shri Naresh Chandra Lall, along with Officials of PBMC were present to motivate the sanitary workers & appreciated their contribution especially during COVID-19.

General public is requested to cooperate with the Sanitary workers for making the source segregation initiative successful. It is also informed that, in case of non-adherence, the penalty as per the PBMC-Solid Waste (Handling & Management) Bye Laws, 2017 will be imposed to force compliance.
