Ashes of Late Atal Bihari Vajpayee Immersed at Indira Point

Port Blair, Aug 29: On August 27th, 2018 Asthi of former Prime Minister Bharat Ratna Swargiya Atal Bihari Vajpayee was immersed in Indira Point, Campbell Bay by Mr. Vishal Jolly, State President BJP, Mr. Sanjay Singh. State Vice President BJP, E. S. Rajesh, District President BJP, N. Kiran, Mondal President, PRI members and all BJP leaders were present on the occasion. During the Asthi Kalash Yatra from Campbell Bay Airport to Indira Point via Community Hall the large numbers of BJP workers and sympathizers were paid homage to former Prime Minister.

Islanders donate relief materials to Kerala flood victims

Port Blair, Aug 22: Setting an example, the people of A&N Islands, have taken an initiative to help people of Kerala, who are now suffering from natural calamity. Dozens and Dozens of faceless and responsible Islanders with the help of the MP, Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, have raised the fund amounting to Rs. 93,910/- (in rupees) and collected the relief materials worth around 25,00,000 for the flood hit people of Kerala. Packing was done with the help of volunteer  students from DBRAIT and officers and men of Indian Coast Guard and Indian Navy. All the rescue kits are being airlifted by Andaman Nicobar Command to Kerala on Aug 21, 2018. Around 2.5MT relief materials were airlifted to Kerala through aircraft of ANC.

CBI arrests two engineers of ALHW

Port Blair, 22 Aug: The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested an Assistant Engineer and a Junior Engineer on Aug 21, 2018, both working in Andaman & Lakshadweep Harbour Work Ltd., Port Blair for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 22,000/- each from the complainant. The case was registered on a complaint wherein it was alleged that the accused had demanded a bribe from the complainant for allowing him to execute the Road repairing Work. CBI laid a trap and caught both the accused red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe or Rs. 22,000/- each from the complainant. Both the arrested accused was produced before the Special Court, Port Blair.

ANMF’s maiden conference on role of media in isles held

Port Blair, July 18: "The role of private media here has been augmenting day by day and it serves as a vigilant watchdog of the society in these islands. It creates awareness among the people regarding their rights and duties. Media today has become central to politics and public life and it should promote involvement of people in policy decisions of the government," observed the Member of Parliament," Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray. He was addressing a day-long conference organised by the Andaman and Nicobar Media Federation (ANMF) on the role of private media in these islands on July 16, 2018.
