TMI Bureau Port Blair, Mar 04: South Andaman may witness water scarcity this summer. As per reliable sources, currently Dhanikhari reservoir has around 20.7 Million Liters of water against 29.5 ML last year which is 30% less, in other words only 10 mtrs level of water is left in the Dhanikhari dam. Officials say, for the first time since heightening of the Dhanikhari dam, APWD has been forced to impose curtailment in South Andaman region. However, APWD / PBMC are making best efforts to deal with the situation and supply adequate water to over 40,800 households in South Andaman. People are also requested to use water judiciously, officials added. Climatically, the rainy season happens twice a year under the influence of Southwest monsoon in mid-May to September, and Northeast monsoon in November to January. TMI Correspondent Port Blair, Feb 05: The Art of Living (an NGO) initiated to carry out Beach Cleanliness drives on once a week basis at various beaches in South Andaman. On Jan 26, 2020, the Art of Living team and Beodnabad Panchayat, as part of its Beach Cleanliness drives has collected huge plastics and other leftovers at Rangachang Beach and disposed off the stuffs to maintain the beauty of the beach. However, the Art of Living team have revisited beach and went to same place, where they have conducted a Beach Cleanliness drive a week ago. And, they observed that local people littering, consuming alcohol and everywhere drunkard people roaming, wastes are scattered around and felt unsafe for women for family visits. TMI Bureau Port Blair, Jan 29: The Andaman & Nicobar AIDS Control Society in coordination with various departments and education institutions in the A&N Islands have achieved a decrease in number of AIDS cases in A&N Islands. Last year i.e. in 2018-19, 28 patients and during this financial year 2019-20, 19 cases so far were reported, which is a remarkable decrease in number of cases in the A&N Islands. During an interaction with Dr. M. Joy, Project Director, ANACS and Director, A&N State Blood Transfusion Council, have revealed about the current status of HIV/ AIDS in the A&N Islands. Dr. M. Port Blair, Jan 22: On Jan 21, 2020 at 01 pm, information was received at PS Aberdeen through PCR that a two year old child is missing from Prem Nagar near Uma Bakery. Immediately, a Police team swung into action. After extensive search & efforts of the team, the minor boy was recovered from a drain opposite to Hotel TSG Emerald, Phoenix Bay and immediately evacuated to GB Pant Hospital, Port Blair. On enquiry, it was revealed that the father had dropped his kid and wife to his brother's house at Prem Nagar. The minor boy while playing in front of his house, entered in a drain which led towards Phoenix Bay but nobody noticed the same.
