Great Nicobar Project “Plan for the paradise”

New Delhi, Apr 05: In February 2021, India's National Marine Turtle Action Plan mentioned Galathea Bay on the south-eastern coast of the Great Nicobar Island as one of the "Important Marine Turtle Habitats in India". Beaches on either side of the Galathea River are the most important nesting sites in the northern Indian Ocean for the Leatherback turtle, the world's largest marine turtle. The Action Plan says that coastal development projects, including the construction of ports, jetties, resorts, and industries, are major threats to turtle populations. But this kind of development is exactly what is planned for the future of Galathea Bay under the Rs.72,000-crore mega project piloted by NITI Aayog for the "holistic development" of the Great Nicobar Island (GNI), situated at the southern end of the Andaman and Nicobar group of Islands in the Bay of Bengal. e-Office training for Officers of A&N Administration conducted

Port Blair, Apr 05: An Orientation-cum-Refresher Training Programme on e-Office for the Officers of Andaman and Nicobar Administration is being organized jointly by Department of Information Technology, A&N Administration and National Informatics Centre. The orientation-cum-training programme was inaugurated by Shri Pankaj Kumar, IAS, Secretary (IT), A & N Administration recently in the conference hall of Dr. BR Ambedker Institute of Technology, Pahargaon. The Special Secretary (IT), Dr. Utpal Sharma, Shri Gautam Gupta, ASIO, NIC and Technical Team consisting 4 members from NIC New Delhi were also present during the programme. In his inaugural address, the Secretary (IT) informed that e-Office was implemented in A & N Administration from August 2022 and a total of 57 Departments including autonomous bodies under A & N Administration, Public Undertaking have been on boarded. MEGA EVENT: 1.6 Kms of NSCB Open Sea Swimming Competition successfully organised; 60+ yrs age group shows morale for youngsters of A&N Islands

Port Blair, Mar 18: The Department of Sports & Youth Affairs, Andaman and Nicobar Administration have successfully conducted the mega event Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Open Sea Swimming competition on 18th March 2023 as a part on on-going celebration of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav and hosting of G20 summit in India. As per scheduled at the dawn of day, 191 Nos. of participants enthusiastically participated in the event. Admiral D.K. Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.) Lt. Governor and Vice Chairman, Islands Development Agency as Chief Guest, flagged off the first event “Men’s Open (18 yrs to 50 yrs)” from Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Island in which 138 participants took part. The remaining events of the competition were flagged off by Shri Keshav Chandra, Chief Secretary, A&N Administration. DC along with Road Safety Committee have inspected major traffic choke points in the city to mitigate traffic congestion and to regulate traffic in peak hours

Port Blair, Mar 13: The District Road Safety Committee headed by The Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman Ms. Veditha Reddy, IAS alongwith the SP (Traffic), Additional District Magistrate, PBMC, APWD, Transport Dept, Assistant Commissioner (U/T), Director, Education and the officers of line department, Ward Councillors, Auto Union inspected Bathubasti Bazaar area, Dollygunj Auto Stand, VKV School Lambaline, Dairy Farm Airport Entrance Gate, Junglighat area and Mohanpura market area to ascertain the causes and mitigate the traffic congestion and its regulation during peak hours, the points which we were discussed in the last meeting of District Road Safety Committee held on 10.03.2023. Starting from Bathu Basti Junction, the Auto Union raised the demand for notification for auto stand. Furthee,parking of two wheelers on one side and four wheelers on other side from Bhatubasti vegetable Market to Bhatubasti Junction was also discussed and checked on ground.
