‘Try Back to Nature’ - it tastes wonderful ; People urged to refrain from using plastic straws

Port Blair, Aug 28: Over the years, plastic has been one of the larger polluters to tourism areas. A pristine tourist spot is spoilt by the use of plastic. The Secretary, (IP&T), in her limited touring of Port Blair has come across many hotels, restaurants, roadside eateries, beachside, tender coconut water sellers, who are using plastic straws. The areas around is littered with these straws, which are not only one time usage but also choke the environment. As an input for improving the tourism experience, the IP&T Secretary, Dr Pooja Joshi has urged the people to make efforts to go 'Back to Nature' and completely ban the use of plastic straws for the same. The tourists may find it a unique experience to drink 'Daab' (tender coconut) in its natural way in Andamans. The nears and dears have condoled the sudden and untimely demise of Shri T. Suresh Babu, S/o Late T. Ramamurthy, R/o Shadipur, who breathed his last on 21/08/2019 evening at GB Pant Hospital. He was working in the BSNL’s Telephone Exchange Office as contract basis. He was a hard worker and a well being person. He always stood front, in guiding youth and participation in social welfare activities in Shadipur. Stop opening liquor outlets: LA villagers

Hut Bay, Aug 21: Villagers of Rabindranagar and Vivekanandnagar in Little Andaman have raised strong objection to opening of liquor outlets in the region on August 20, 2019. At a meeting held in July this year, the villagers called for the intervention of the Prime Minister, Home Minister as also senior officials of the administration through a letter to stop issue of permits to operate liquor trade in the remote villages. 'Rabindranagar and Vivekanandnagar are remote villages in Little Andaman and opening of liquor Bars will have an adverse impact on school students and women in the region. Teenagers particularly in the age-group of 13-16 years will be the most affected as they may get into alcohol addiction. Besides, affecting our culture and tradition, easy availability of liquor will also have an effect on the Onge tribe here, who often visit Hut Bay for healthcare and other needs', mentioned villagers in the letter.
