Awareness of Distance Education among School Children

Ganesan (RD, IGNOU) Normally the school children know the stages of education from first standard to 12th standard at school level.  Beyond school education, they have little knowledge about college / university level higher education.  Due to the remoteness and isolation of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, the exposure of Open and Distance Learning (ODL) System is minimum to school children.  Then, how to increase their awareness on Open and Distance Education system of learning?  By just asking following questions to school children, they will be sensitized towards distance education methodology of teaching-learning. * Basic concepts of Distance Education and Open Learning: Are they same? * Self-learning skills for distance learners:  Why necessary? * Student support services in Open & Distance Learning system: How it is done? * Reaching the Unreached Population for higher education:  Jail inmates can study? * Flexibilities of ODL system:  Mention 8 -1

People allege "shoddy road work going on at Teylarabad"; JE assures, work will be done properly

TMI Correspondent Port Blair, Apr 24: Local people allege that, "the method using to construct road from main road to Pujari House at Teylarabad village (Ward No.3) under Sippighat Gram Panchayat by contractor is substandard. The road roller work is not done properly to compact soil and bitumen in the construction of its foundation, and sufficient water also not fed during road laying work". Nearby residents further alleges that, the concern Junior Engineer for this work is least bother to inspect the work going on in broad day light, which hits there might be some nexus between contractor and concerned officials of Sippighat Gram Panchayat. However, people in majority allege that, "If the road is carpeted in such standard, it will be damaged within a year". It is come to notice that, in many schools in the A&N Islands, shockingly as per sources, from the middle schools level the students started using such illegal drugs in schools. But the main point is that, how can the middle school students can afford or manage to buy such illegal products? People across A&N Islands condemns Pulwama attack; Candlelight march marked their protest

TMI Bureau Port Blair, Feb 20: To pay tributes to Martyrs (40 CRPF personnel) and condemn the cowardly act by terrorists on Feb 14, 2019 at Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir. At Port Blair, A&N Media Federation (ANMF) organized a prayers meet on Feb 15, 2019 where participants gathered and lighted candles. The prayer meet was organized at Flag Point of Port Blair city. Media persons also burned the effigies of Masood Azhar, the chief of Jaish-e-Mohammed and the reported master mind behind the terror attack. The A&N Tour Operator Association organized a candle march on Feb 16, 2019 at 6:00 pm from Rajiv Gandhi Water Sports Complex to Gandhi Statue via Clock Tower. Singh has launched a book 'History of Great Nicobar Island - The Ascent', written by Tara Singh Pabla (Retd), PGT History, today evening in Conference Hall of TSG Emerald View, Port Blair. Shri Mohd. Sanitation workers’ protest in front of DHS

TMI Bureau Port Blair, Feb 06: The Sanitation workers to Health Department, who have recently been removed from jobs by the private outsourcing company since Feb 04, 2019 being staged protest in front of Health Department demanding their EPF amount of last eight years and direct re-engagement in Health Department. As per sources, in the first week of January, the outsourcing agency for providing Sanitation Workers to Health Department reportedly removed around 102 Sanitation Workers, most of whom, were working in hospital since last many years and they were also hails from financial backward families. Workers alleged that earlier many outsourcing agencies had taken contract to provide Sanitation workers to the G B Pant hospital but never such incident came to the light. Many alleged that there are workers who had been rendering services for the past 8 years still they did not registered under EPF, consequently even after removal from job we are unable to get EPF benefits

‘Manipulation in the proposed list of candidates for Malaria/ Filaria Inspector’ allege citizens

TMI Bureau Port Blair, Feb 06: The Deputy Director (Malaria), Directorate of Health Services has circulated a memo on 29/01/2019 among the probable workers for appearing before the Interview Board at 3.00 pm on 13/01/2019, under the zone of consideration for promotion to the post of Malaria Inspector, and list of 9 names i.e. Karunanithi (Insect Collector), Nabore (Surveillance Worker), Robert (SW), Krsihna Das (SW), Sabbir Mehmood (SW), T.A. Hunais   (SW), N. Abdul Gafoor (SW), R. Sekhar (SW), and P. Zubair (SW) were proposed for the same in that memo, but some proposed names in the year 2017 was removed, reasons best known the Directorate of Health. TMI Correspondent Port Blair, Jan 23: The Andaman Nicobar Media Federation (ANMF) on 23 January 2019 honored eight Islanders with ‘ANMF Andaman Heroes Award – 2019’ in appreciation of their valuable and selfless services towards Society and the People in the A&N Islands. The function was held in the Conference Hall of HOTEL MANSHA REGENCY, Opp. Secondary School, Delanipur, Port Blair this evening. Mrs. Neha Bansal (IAS), Secretary, Department of Arts and Culture, A&N Administration was the chief guest on the occasion. The programme was started after lighting the traditional lamp by the Chief Guest and others special guests.
