Remarkable reduction in the number of AIDS patients in Islands ; Awareness is prevention: Dr. M. Joy

TMI Bureau Port Blair, Jan 29: The Andaman & Nicobar AIDS Control Society in coordination with various departments and education institutions in the A&N Islands have achieved a decrease in number of AIDS cases in A&N Islands. Last year i.e. in 2018-19, 28 patients and during this financial year 2019-20, 19 cases so far were reported, which is a remarkable decrease in number of cases in the A&N Islands. During an interaction with Dr. M. Joy, Project Director, ANACS and Director, A&N State Blood Transfusion Council, have revealed about the current status of HIV/ AIDS in the A&N Islands. Dr. M. Missing child found safely

Port Blair, Jan 22: On Jan 21, 2020 at 01 pm, information was received at PS Aberdeen through PCR that a two year old child is missing from Prem Nagar near Uma Bakery. Immediately, a Police team swung into action. After extensive search & efforts of the team, the minor boy was recovered from a drain opposite to Hotel TSG Emerald, Phoenix Bay and immediately evacuated to GB Pant Hospital, Port Blair. On enquiry, it was revealed that the father had dropped his kid and wife to his brother's house at Prem Nagar. The minor boy while playing in front of his house, entered in a drain which led towards Phoenix Bay but nobody noticed the same. ALHW to complete Dry Dock Extension project by August 2021

TMI Correspondent Port Blair, Nov 13: A delegation of the Andaman Nicobar Media Federation (ANMF) has visited the project site of Dry Dock Extension at Marine Dockyard on Nov 9, 2019, where senior officials of ALHW briefed them about the execution of the project. Earlier, in the conference hall of ALHW, the Deputy Chief Engineer, Andaman Lakshadweep Harbour Works (ALHW), Smt. Mamata Jijith has explained about the Dry Dock Extension project through a power point presentation. Smt. Jijith said, the project "Extension of Dry Dock - II at Marine Dockyard including supply, installation and commissioning of Dry dock pumps and accessories in Port Blair, South Andaman" has been sanctioned by Ministry of Shipping under Central Sector Plan Scheme to the tune of Rs. 96.24 Cr with the stipulated date of completion of 42 months. According to two youth, 'yesterday in the afternoon they have visited famous hotel at Bhatu Basthi junction and ordered two plates Vegetable Biryani and butter paneer, which was served on the table in few minutes and they started having their lunch, and within few minutes one found a marble sized black stone in his plate, meanwhile another one accidentally found crushed under his teeth while having vegetable biryani in the hotel. STS to implement MoRTH directives; Decides to fit GPS Based Vehicle Tracking System & Panic Button in STS Buses, commercial vehicles

 Port Blair, Nov 7: The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways has mandated fitment of GPS based vehicles tracking system in all commercial vehicles. The Transport Department has already started action for empanelment of eligible firm capable of fitting GPS & providing after sales service in the UT. It has been decided to implement the directives in two phases to provide a transition period to the commercial vehicle owners. In first phase, all the public transport buses operated by Transport Department shall be covered and tender has been floated by the Department. In the second phase all other commercial vehicles shall be required to comply with the directives of MoRTH as referred above.

Concubine weakens bond

TMI Bureau Port Blair, Oct 23: Apart from rising prostitution at various locations in A&N Islands, another destructive relationship arises in the name of Concubines in the society. It is well known to the islanders that the influx of Bangladeshies in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands has affected a lot in many ways viz. they are encroaching land, consuming electricity and water, fearlessly. Experts believe that large number of people, suspected to be Bangladeshi, also has local documents. But, now it can been seen destroying relationships in happy families in these Islands. A group of women alleges that, their relationship with their husbands are weakening due to the concubines (a woman who lives with a man but has lower status than his wife or wives) and their husbands used to neglect look after their wife and children and other family members.
