Awareness about eye donation was created at Chinmaya Mission

TMI Correspondent Port Blair on Sept 13: This awareness program was organized as part of the 38th National Eye Donation Fortnight, which took place from August 25th to September 8th, 2023. The program was organized by the National Programme for Control of Blindness & Visual Impairment (NPCB&VI), Directorate of Health Services, UT Health Mission A&N Administration, and it was held in the conference hall of Chinmaya Mission on September 3rd, 2023. Speaking on the occasion, Swami Shuddananda Saraswati (Guruji) recalled the importance of eyes in every living being's life by explaining the meaning of "Sarvendriyanam Nayanam Pradhanam." He further informed the gathering that in the Sanatana Dharma, there are no restrictions on the donation of eyes after life. He said that if a sighted person could help a blind person see the world through their eyes, even after their own life, it would be among the most precious contributions to humanity. Impressive paintings, sculptures on the theme Mangrove- an exhibition with a difference

TMI Correspondent Kolkata/Port Blair: Of late, the art lovers of Kolkata and many from places in and around the city had the opportunity of seeing a conglomeration of paintings and sculpture by a group of promising artists under the aegis of an organisation appropriately named 'Mangrove'. It was the Seventh Annual Painting - Sculpture Exhibition of this unique organisation held for a week at the 'New South Gallery' of the Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata. Among the participants in the said exhibition were altogether 19 painters, sculptors and cartoonists. Mahananda Gomasta, a well-known artist, who carved out a niche for himself as a sculptor of great repute in Andaman and elsewhere also, flew in to take part with his pieces of sculptures in this event. Port Blair: A seven-year-old male child was admitted in children ward with complaints of high-grade  fever with chills and rigor and pain in abdomen for the last 2 days. He was in an unstable condition in septic shock and was managed initially in the PICU by the Paediatric intensivists and the child was stabilized. Child was clinically found to have abdominal distension and an enlarged spleen. Hence, the child was referred for expert opinion to the Surgical Department. The child was examined and evaluated by Surgeons with blood investigation and USG abdomen and contrast CT scan and was found to have a large splenic abscess with hemolytic anemic condition namely sickle cell anemia. Since the entire spleen was filled with pus and the child was already on high dose of antibiotics and not responding to it with continuous high grade fever with chills and rigor, the decision was taken for removing the splenic abscess by doing emergency splenectomy. A tragic road accident claims man's life on NH-4 / ATR road

TMI Correspondent Port Blair, August 02: A 51 year man, Mr. Murugeshan (private worker), R/o Guptapara lost his life in a tragic road accident this morning at around 09:15 AM in front of IMFC sale-mela between Minnie Bay and Dollygunj Junction road. The accident occurred when an allegedly speeding car AN01 L 7004 (Swift Dzire) driven by a 33 yrs lady, Mrs. Preeti (govt. servant), R/o Garacharma knocked-down Mr. Murugeshan who was crossing the road by foot. According to eyewitness, "Mr. Murugeshan, a mini cargo van driver, after parking his van on the other side of the road he walked to a nearby mechanic shop to ask something, and while coming back to his parked van by foot he met with this accident.   TMI Correspondent Port Blair, Aug 02: In a shocking incident, a lifeless body of a 48-year-old lady was discovered on August 01, 2023, in a rented room located in Bathubasti, near Kannan Driving School. The lady, identified as Mrs. Shoba Rani Mondal, was a resident of Pathergudda. Mrs. Shoba Rani Mondal operated a ladies' beauty parlour in Bathubasti, where she employed a male massage therapist to assist her business. As per sources, the therapist Mr. Naba Kumar Dhar, (35 years) is a native of Kolkata, was provided accommodation in the said rented room by Mrs. Shoba Rani Mondal and she used to provide him daily three time meals in his room only. As per reports, on August 01, 2023 Mrs. Shoba Rani Mondal visited her massage worker's room as usual for providing lunch but failed to neither return to her parlour nor respond to any phone calls. Port Blair, Aug 02: The Veteran Congress leader, former Mizoram Governor and the most popular Lieutenant Governor of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Vakkom Purushothaman, passed away at his residence in Thiruvananthapuram on July 31, 2023 following age-related illnesses. He was 96. Purushothaman served as the 6th Lieutenant Governor of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands from 1993 to 1996.
